Responsive body coat
Wearable Design

If feeling at home are about finding our way, it’s important to consider how to find our way as a process of reorientation; as bodies move away, as well as arrive, as we reinhabit spaces. As Sarah Ahmed refers, spaces are like a second skin that unfolds in the folds of the body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-second skin- wearable designed with origami techniques, pleated skirts, Tyvek paper, programmable LEDs, Arduino Uno into a responsive body coat. Research into queering outer space; to ‘Uranus’.

Uranus
Creative Coding Interaction Design performance Video

Uranus as video installation and performance studies ‘feeling at home’ as a new form of Uranism, which allows us to imagine a different social organization of life forms. A hommage to writer Sarah Ahmed* about orientation and migration, as philosopher Paul B. Preciado’s Apartment on Uranus** asserts: “overcome sexual differences and intervene in a new cognitive framework allowing the existence of life’s diversity”.

Non-binary
Kinetic Art performance Video

NB explores the relationship between organs and sexuality, by questioning this system and the common design language of commercial sex toys.

Who defines an organ? What is an organ? And intervenes on new organs, services, and desires about identity politics rather as a proposition or possibility. With video, foldable design and liters of silicon.

It also invites the viewer to take a closer look at the epilogue of our personal stories, within the realities of gender fluidity and sex toys.

We all have the power to transform and change our feelings and thoughts between desire & body, technique and consciousness.

The Rock
Interaction Design Speculative Design

Lately I dived into the world of designing interactions and building rapid machine learning (ML) prototypes. By utilizing Wekinator and Processing software, multiple wearables are prototyped to interact desires and needs.

With these foldable prototypes I’m exploring new areas of social and emotional design on different scale, dimension. Exploring the limits of natural folding into a combination of programming, transformation and sensing.

During the last months I worked intensively with Julie who got stuck at home in Paris during the pandemic as Covid sensitive. Her desire; more hugs and intimacy, beyond political and geographical boundaries.

What do ‘social distancing’ and ‘the 6 feet society’ mean for a profession and inhabitants of Amsterdam? What expertise, tips, skills or knowledge to deal with this crisis would you like to share with the city and society at large?

In the coming weeks we are gathering stories and statements based on a variety of expertises and experiences before, during and hopefully after Covid-19. The stories will be gathered and captured in powerful and poetic quotes, which will be designed and printed on an A1 and A0 billboard campaign throughout the city of Amsterdam for 6 months.

Als ik SAM was… x workshop
Buurthaven

Manifestation with activist art, performances, installations, lectures and music, about global ecological awareness 2nd – 15th of November 2019

Participating artists: Isabel Burr Raty (CH/BE), Thomas Thwaites (UK), Pink Pony Express (NL), Koos Buist (NL), Esther Kokmeijer (NL), Marwan Moujaes (LB), Tinkebell (NL), Madison Bycroft (AU) & Angelica Falkeling (SE), Global Warm Up (FR/PE/IT/DE), Iekeliene Stange (NL) & Ibelisse Ferragutti (BO/BR) and many more.

Concept and composition: Merel Noorlander & Arjen Lancel

‘Pleuriversum’ plays with the issue of a global ecological crisis. Looking at our earth as a closed system in which small changes in one place can also have an effect elsewhere – positive or negative.

From the visual arts, social design, performance art, fashion, philosophy, literature and science, the art event offers the visitor a kaleidoscopic spectrum designed as an ecological system in itself. Starting with our own body as a self-regulating cycle, zooming out further and further into the world around us, the manifestation meanders through the entire Arti building as one sensory laboratory. With stimulating ideas and playful, surprising insights from cultured meat ice cream and beauty articles from body juices, to a ‘Groningen ditch’ and its inhabitants and the consequences of nuclear disaster Fukushima.

The Inside Out, The Outside In – Review
Trendbeheer
